Gulf of Chiriqui, Panama - our operating area.
Introduction
Seeing as many may have missed the point in the heading paragraph, it should, perhaps, be emphasized that this web site is currently targeted towards that (apparently very small) minority of individuals - whose "guidance systems" are currently programmed to operate primarily on the basis of rationality - along with a deep affinity and respect for our natural environment.
The (apparently very large) majority of the human inhabitants of this planet who, currently, base their decisions on a very wide and diverse assortment of other "guidance systems" - along with a "deep affinity and respect" - apparently restricted, virtually exclusively, to "the market place", are likely to find this web site neither interesting nor rewarding.

Objectives
Panama Adventure Tours' initial operations will be centered around the utilization of our extraordinarily innovative (yet childishly simple) 76 ft custom catamaran "Grand Illusion" - so as to maximize the benefits to our investors. We have very good reason to believe that, with our acquisition of a lease on one of a handful of existing lodges in the extraordinarily lush and pristine Gulf of Chiriqui, we will be able to provide a truly unique, extraordinarily enjoyable, all inclusive "Escape to Paradise" package.
At this time, we are still in discussions with a few establishments in the area. However, we have already made provisional arrangements to lease the Tucan Lodge. Our tentative plans are to expand the existing sleeping accommodations, at this facility, with the construction of "room boats" - which, in conjunction with other (land and Grand Illusion based) options, will increase the sleeping accommodation to allow for a total of 24 guests - plus senior staff.
One unique (and very important) aspect of our operation is that it is expressly designed to serve as a "Time Machine" of sorts - by transporting our guests to an earlier (and perhaps later) gentler, less complicated era - far, far removed from today's overwhelming, incessant, noisy hailstorm of social, technological, market, and media driven imperatives.
As an inevitable result of this effort, we will also, concurrently, be ensuring that our operation is subject to the minimum possible negative impact - from any events related to the evermore dire and widely held predictions - regarding "The end of the world as we know it".
The resulting benefits to our shareholders are expected to include an extraordinarily handsome return on investment, deeply discounted access to our facilities in this "Island Paradise" - and hopefully, should all the predictions that "The sky is falling", demonstrate a degree of accuracy, some protection from the ensuing chaos and destruction
In regard to the latter, the dispassionate, rational consideration of the abundant evidence, would suggest that a decision, to entirely ignore all these predictions, might turn out to be regretted - within one's lifetime. According to the selfsame predictions, one's lifetime might also turn out to be regrettably short.
Those afflicted with a nagging social conscience may also benefit from the knowledge that our venture, besides, possibly, providing some sanctuary, for a few fortunate individuals, in the event of "The Sky falling", might also contribute, in some small way, towards forestalling this occurrence.
No doubt, the possible contributing causes to the many predicted cataclysmic events are innumerable. However, it would seem that a major contributing factor might be: Far too many (very irrational) people engaged in far too ruthless (very irrational) battles to secure, both the most traditional and the very latest (often, seemingly, rather useless), "must have goodies" - material and otherwise.
One direct effect our venture will have, is that it will (for a limited period of time) remove a small number of "combatants" from the "battlefields". More significant, perhaps, is the indirect effect - namely, clearly demonstrating that success on these "battlefields" is not the only means to a quite pleasant sojourn on this planet of ours.
We would like to think that our venture will provide clear cut evidence that, in fact,
"a quite pleasant sojourn on this planet" is perfectly possible and, indeed, clearly attainable - with a very modest drain on ones personal financial resources, a similarly modest impact on our planet's resources and natural environment - and little or no conflict with our fellow human beings.
Advantages
The rapid achievement of our goals will be facilitated by virtue of our venture enjoying the following very valuable advantages:
> Grand Illusion is an extraordinary, "out of the box" (albeit rather "boxy") boat - specifically designed, engineered, laid out and equipped to fulfill a strict design mandate - with no concessions to current boat design fashions and trends. As such, she will be extraordinarily effective at achieving this design mandate - namely, providing the perfect, "ultra green", fast, stable, seaworthy, safe and extraordinarily comfortable platform (at extraordinarily low capital and operating costs) for a small group of guests (24) to enjoy a wide variety of activities - on day tours (and occasional overnight camping tours) in an "Island Paradise".
The above heads the list of advantages which our operation will enjoy - for very good reason. As such, it may be worth emphasizing - as follows:
There are several, completely contradictory, well known quotations, regarding boats, which are very pertinent to the success of our operation. On the positive side (from Keneth Grahame's "Wind in the Willows") there are the wonderful words of "Ratty" :
"There is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats".
On the negative side (from a very old anonymous source) there is:
"He who goes to sea for pleasure would go to hell for a pastime".
Other well known words along the lines of the latter are:
"When you first get seasick, you are afraid that you are going to die - - - later, you are afraid that you are not."
Which of these quotations comes closest to echoing the current sentiment of any given individual, at any given time on a boat trip, depends largely on the particular boat that individual is on - and the state of the seas in which it is operating. Sadly (despite the rosy scenarios - promoted by the glossy brochures and magazines) in, not uncommon, "brisk" open water conditions, for most of us (who, understandably, are likely to be relative novices to the boating world) a full day, aboard most boats, is far more likely to elicit sentiments along the lines of the latter two quotations.
The few exceptions (in regard to the boats) are very large modern cruise ships, and a remarkably short list of somewhat smaller vessels. Happily for us, this list includes Grand Illusion - along with a relatively small number of other, equally innovative vessels - with similar design mandates. The reasons for this current state of affairs are far too extensive and complicated to be covered on this web page. However, for the curious, there is much relevant (albeit very disorganized) information to be found (with some difficulty) elsewhere on this very large group of web sites.
> Our chosen, start up operating area, within the Gulf of Chiriqui, is one of the very few remaining locations, in this hemisphere, which provide all the requisite ingredients for an extraordinarily pristine, diverse, lush and rich "Island Paradise".
This description is particularly apt when applied to the marine life in this area.
In fact, the Gulf of Chiriqui, besides being home to the second largest coral reef system in the eastern Pacific, is widely considered one of the best sport fishing locations on the planet.
> Our home base, in the Boca Chica area, despite being an intrinsic part of this pristine archipelago, will only be a one hour drive from David (the second largest city in Panama) - which, in turn, is only a 1 hour flight from Panama City and San Jose, Costa Rica. Our current competition, based in this area, consists of a handful of local "pangas" (outboard powered, very basic skiffs) offering modestly priced "beach tours" and a handful of mid size, "center console", sport fishing boats - catering to "serious" sport fishermen - at very "serious" prices.
> Panama provides many advantages for our operation - including: a currently stable government, a growing economy, low cost of living, low labor costs, and a "first world" infrastructure - including one of the busiest airline hubs in the Americas. Panama also offers extraordinarily generous financial and regulatory incentives for tourist oriented businesses - particularly those located outside of Panama City. Last but, by no means least, Panama is never threatened by hurricanes.
> Our philosophy, in regard to management and staffing, will provide for a talented, capable, enthusiastic, congenial and extraordinarily motivated team.
> Our "product", we would like to think, will be a rather extraordinary one - some might say "old fashioned". Unlike the norm today, wherein most "products", in our field, appear to be highly specialized, structured and rigid, we intend to offer a far more diverse, spontaneous, "natural" alternative.
Quite simply, our "product" is intended to provide persons of all ages, inclinations and experience levels, with the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of pleasant and interesting activities, with a wide variety of pleasant and interesting persons, in a wide variety of pleasant and interesting places - at an extraordinarily modest price.
Naturally, our "product" is focused on the outdoors and targeted at nature lovers in general. As such, we do not think we will be posing an economic threat to Las Vegas or Disney World - anytime soon. We also do not intend to focus our marketing efforts towards (nor cater to) any particular narrow, hardcore, exclusive, competitive, clique, group, or element of outdoor enthusiast. Despite this (in fact, largely because of this) we expect that a substantial percentage of persons will find our laid back, unstructured, spontaneous, diverse and authentic "escapes" to be quite surprising, perhaps even "magical" - and extraordinarily enjoyable.
> Our timing is very opportune, in that, relative newcomers to the Internet such as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and other "social networking" web sites now provide extraordinarily effective tools for "word of mouth" promotion. Because of this, it is now feasible for sales of a new, but effective "product", to quickly surpass sales of long established, less effective products - despite the powerful "branding" - which the latter may have acquired. As explained above, we expect to be in a position to offer a very effective "product" - which will take full advantage of these new promotional tools.
Plans
We are seeking a like minded, compatible person (or persons) to purchase roughly a 25% stake in this venture - at a price of $110,000.00 U.S. The option of further investments in the near future, should one be so inclined, will also be available. Our project may be roughly divided into the following phases - although, naturally, these phases will overlap to some degree.
Phase 1: Basic outfitting of Grand Illusion and relocation to Boca Chica, Panama
Aug. 1 2010 - Dec. 15 2010 Further capital required: $60,000.00 U.S.
Completion of basic outfitting (as described in detail on the relevant spread sheet and the Apollo Duck web site) and relocation to Panama
Phase 2: Securing a suitable waterfront property for establishing a home base.
Aug 1 2010 - Dec 15 2011 Further capital required - $20,000.00 U.S.
At this time there are many waterfront properties, of different types, on the market in Boca Chica - at bargain prices. We expect to be able to secure one of these - with a lease / option to buy.
Phase 3: Upgrading home base and further outfitting of Grand Illusion - as required.
Dec. 15 2011 - Jun 30 2011 Further capital required - $20-50,000.00 U.S.
Requirements for our home base include:
> Basic, rustic, but comfortable, sleeping accommodation for 24 guests plus senior staff. One interesting option, in this regard, is the construction of simple, relatively low cost, "room boats."
> A common area, which (in conjunction with Grand Illusion) will provide adequate catering, dining and "hanging out" facilities for guests and staff.
> A dock and support facilities for Grand Illusion.
When at dock, Grand Illusion will serve as an integral, seamless, and very valuable component of the home base. This is particularly advantageous because of the fact that she would be some distance from any land bound insect pests and would be able to take full advantage of the cooling effect of the slightest breeze from any direction. The capital requirement figure is loosely based on the use of Tucan Lodge.
Phase 4: Marketing and operating of multi day all inclusive package tours.
Jan 1 2011 -
Promotion & Marketing.
In the long run, Virtually all our marketing for our package tours will be commission free - via the Internet. Actual sales will effected through our web site. However, our most effective promotional tool is expected to be "cyberspace word of mouth" by means of Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc. To this end, we plan on launching our operations with a several month, deeply discounted, heavily promoted, "inaugural special" (perhaps, with a couple of bottles of champagne and other goodies included) in order to get as many people as possible to sample our product - as soon as possible.
Operations
As time goes on, our operation will be focused more and more exclusively on 1 week (or multiples thereof) all inclusive, package tours. However, we expect to significantly supplement our revenues, in the early stages, by offering - firstly, "space available" shorter stay package tours on the international market and, secondly, "space available" day tours on the local market - through other local, tourist oriented establishments. We are confident that all of these options will very rapidly lead to very high occupancy levels - with a continually increasing percentage of, very profitable 1 week (or multiples thereof) package tours.
Activities offered
The regular daily tours on Grand Illusion, included in our packages, will offer many activities - including: fishing, kayaking, snorkeling, free diving, whale watching, and exploring hundreds of different islands in the Gulf of Chriqui. We will also be offering (at no extra charge to our package tour guests) alternative activities in the local area. Such activities might include short trips within the estuary in small boats and kayaks, hiking, bird watching and day tours, on our bus, to various nearby highland areas.
Financial outlook
What with our very competitive pricing philosophy and the aid of the most powerful "travel agents" on the planet - namely Myspace, Facebook , Twitter and others (who, happily, do not charge a penny for their services) we expect both our occupancy levels and our annual return on investment to rapidly approach the 100% level
Phase 5: Continued expansion, upgrading and diversification of operations
Nov 15 2011 - Further capital required ????
Infrastructure
Our options, down the road, include acquiring the use of a small highland farm / ranch - with basic, rustic main house (including extensive catering facilities) and cabins for 24 guests - and equipment for a wide variety of mountain activities.
Naturally, there are also many options in regard to expanding our operations through the construction of sister (and cousin) ships to Grand Illusion - and other diverse water craft.
Operations
Our operations at this stage could include multi day all inclusive, combination package tours divided 50 / 50 between the islands and the highlands.
Activities offered
Fishing, snorkeling, free diving, sea kayaking, surfing, beach camping, horseback riding, hiking, river rafting, river kayaking, bird watching - and more.
Financial outlook
By the time we have reached this phase, we would not expect to be paying any commissions at all - and we would expect to be operating at very high occupancy levels. As such, even with comparatively low prices, we would expect to see very high profit levels.
Notes:
1) Clearly, some apparently very optimistic and rather extraordinary claims have been made on this web page - as is the case (over the period of many, many years) on many other pages on this very large group of web sites. The overwhelming consensus of opinion, in regard to the content of these web sites, has been and continues to be quite negative - to put it very kindly.
In regard to this situation, we would argue that a dispassionate, informed, rational consideration of the facts suggests that the judgement of this overwhelming majority of individuals, who fall into this group, has been and continues to be extraordinarily prejudiced, ignorant, and irrational.
Clearly, in this context, "extraordinarily" is not the correct choice of word. A more accurate phrase, describing the virtually unanimous judgement of a large majority of individuals, would be "ordinarily prejudiced, uninformed and irrational ". A quick glance around our planet should suffice to demonstrate that, in regard to the human population of the planet as a whole (and, by extension, any random segment of it) this would appear to be a rather accurate observation.
2) The above begs the questions:
> How are we going to get a substantial number of , presumably, "ordinary" individuals to to try our extraordinary "product" ???
> Why would a substantial number of, presumably, "ordinary" individuals find our extraordinary "product" to be extraordinarily enjoyable ???
The answer to the former is:
> By making them an offer they can't refuse.
The answer to the latter is: (to borrow a phrase from Cyril Connolly)
> "Imprisoned in every ordinary man, an extraordinary one is wildly signalling to be let out."
3) This web page includes all the essential information regarding our investment offer. Due to many major change in plans over the past few years (and particularly in recent months) much of the information on other pages of our very extensive website(s) is now outdated and quite confusing. However, for those with the stomach and the head for doing further in depth research, a great deal of relevant information may be found on the links below.
